Is rhyming important in poetry?
This article answers a very important question :- Is rhyming important in poetry? If you are a poet or if you love writing poems, you must have encountered this question at least once in your life. And it is indeed important to know this. The simple answer to this question is "NOT ALWAYS". Yes, you don't always have to use rhyming in a poem. so, lets understand why?
When I started writing I thought rhyming sentences is very important in a poem. But gradually I realized it is not! A poem can go without the rhyme as well. If you feel like rhyming, its up to you but if your thoughts come out beautifully without the rhyme also, its perfect! There's no such hard and fast rule to always add some rhyming scheme to your poems.
Why should you not always use rhyming?
You should not be bound to always rhyme the poem because most of the times people tend to spoil the whole poem in an attempt to rhyme it. They think hard of the words that could rhyme and loose those beautiful words and sentences already present in their minds.
When you start writing a poem, you have certain feelings and words to put in it. And then you start putting them down. Its always a good idea to make a rough outline of feelings and words you have because if you forget some point later you can easily find that. This also helps you keep track of the words you have so that you don't have to look for more to rhyme.

What's the conclusion?
The whole thing sums up to never feel bound to use rhyming. It is all up to you, you feelings and the essence of the poem. The thing to remember is that the fact that its not important does not makes it less important! Whenever rhyming is possible, use it because rhyming schemes gives a nice look to your poem and enhances your vocabulary too.
So, its not necessary but good to use whenever possible.

ReplyDeleteYes, there are 15 forms of poetry such as Haiku, Sonnet, Narrative, one-liner, Blank verse, free verse, Epics, Pastoral Poetry, Elegies, Ode, Limerick, Lyric Poetry, Ballad, Soliloquy, Villanella, etc. and Rhymed poetry is one of them. Every form has its own rules and structure but, creativity is not bound with such restrictions. right? After all, poetry is a medium expressing your emotions, thoughts, and yourself.
Almost 85% of poets don't have awareness of all these and therefore, they always try to rhyme. Sometimes, they spoil their own poems with unnecessary and weird words for the sake of rhyming.
Awareness of knowledge is required and I appreciate your effort. Really, you did a great job.
